Alpair 7A Gen3 speakers

I built this pair of speakers thinking of using them with a future mini F4 with tube preamp for my work desk. They are rated 20W and using these cabinets the sensitivity is 88 dB/W/m or 91dB for both. Using them at max 6 ft will provide 85dB SPL at 1W, 88dB at 2W, 91dB at 4W, 94dB at 8W and 97dB at 16W..I am going to stop here. I usually listen at max 85dB. SPL….

Building speakers is not an easy job, mostly when you don’t have the shop setup for that kind of woodwork. In order to route the driver hole and attachment edge, I had to made a special adapter for my small router.photo 2

I built the cabinets based on a design by Bob Brines from Brines acoustics. It is TL ( transmission Line) design built using 12mm hiigh quality Baltic birch from Woodcraft.com. The plans are for sale at www.brinesacoustics.com for $25. Bob is very meticulous and answers your questions fast. The drivers, banana posts(good quality gold-plated) and filling were bought from http://meniscusaudio.com/.photo 1 photo 3 photo 5 photo 4 photo 1 (1) photo 3 (1) photo 2 (1) photo 4 (1)

They have now about 10 hours of playing time and I am very pleased with the sound. This driver has to carefully broken in to achieve the maximum performance.

It is a very unique full range driver and it is said that it has excellent mids and highs, and you definitely don’t need a tweeter.

This a very nice pair of audiophile speakers for everyday listening….while building tube amplifiers  ;)))
